Mule deer, pronghorn antelope, javelina, squirrel and alligator seasons are set by region, county or permit rather than a single statewide date. Mule deer runs the Panhandle and Trans-Pecos; pronghorn is permit-only; javelina generally runs fall through winter; East Texas has the longest squirrel seasons; and alligator depends on whether you are in a core county. Check the county listing in the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.

Archery opens Oct. 3, 2026. The general white-tailed deer season opens Nov. 7, 2026 in both the North and South Zones — it closes Jan. 3, 2027 in the North Zone and Jan. 17, 2027 in the South Zone.
The coast is in the South Zone: Nov. 7–29, 2026, then Dec. 12, 2026 – Jan. 31, 2027.
